Close your eyes and try to recall the last time you were part of a high performing team, either at work or anywhere else. Do you still remember what made that experience so memorable? You may say it was the people, the environment, the jokes. I bet it was about something you even don’t realize or perhaps take for granted: the belief you wouldn’t be punished when you made a mistake. This is called psychological safety and can only exist if there is trust among a group of people. Psychological safety allows for moderate risk-taking, speaking up, creativity, and drives behaviors that lead to successful innovations.
